Bioeconomy
The European Green Pact’s main goal is to promote the efficient use of resources through a clean and circular economy. One of the areas of work is "Farm to Fork", the farm to table strategy, whose aim is to improve the food system by making it healthier and more sustainable.
In this framework, emphasis is placed on reducing the use of pesticides and chemical agricultural inputs by 50% by 2030. In addition, plans are underway to reduce the fertility alternation of arable soils by using 20% less fertiliser by 2030.
In order to achieve these objectives, natural products must be developed that are at least as effective as current chemically synthesised products. Thus achieving the same or higher agricultural productivity but with less environmental impact and without negative consequences for people’s health.
Moreover, the demand for organic products has increased in recent years, and the Comission’s objective is to boost organic farming to 25% of dedicated farmland by 2030.
The key to developing biofertilisers and biopesticides lies in the selection of micro-organisms that are capable of generating bio-products that enhance plant production or plant health.
We cover all stages through to batch production of biofertilisers and biopesticides.
In obtaining micro-organisms we use natural isolates, micro-organisms from our own or external collections, or even modify a micro-organism to produce a particular molecule with improved performance.
We study and select the microorganisms with the highest effectiveness in the desired functionality and design the bioprocess to industrial scale-up. Wherever possible, we consider the economic optimisation of the process by using low-cost culture media based on co-products.
We assess functionality in the field through collaboration with a variety of agents.
All operations are carried out in pilot plants designed to operate under GMPs and authorised to handle GMOs.
